I've read a few books in random order but I de3finitely see a huge difference between thee Old Testament God and Jesus. I usually refer to the OT God as Yahweh and Jesus as such. Just in the OT alone, polygamy and incest were OK in the first part but it evolved into being a dishonorable practice later on. Xians say b/c of population but I would think if Yahweh was omniscient, the rules would stay the same and there would be no 'but it was acceptable at the time b/c that's the way things were then'.

God did not "evolve" in the Bible. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. What "evolved" in a manner of speaking is our knowledge of him. God is WAY beyond any human's ability to understand him. ("For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8,9)
God has always initiated the relationship between himself and people. The only people who truly knew God were Adam and Eve, before sin clouded their perceptions of him.
Throughout the Bible God revealed himself more and more to people - like giving pieces of a puzzle that has an infinate number of pieces. In the Old Testament he revealed himself to be a holy God. If you only read the Old Testament he may appear as an angry judge. But through Jesus he revealed that although he is holy, he is also full of love and so he provided a way for us to approach him. Amazingly, if you read the New Testament, you can then look back at the Old Testament and see pictures of Jesus all the way through it. The same pieces of the puzzle were there all along but we were unable to understand them until the puzzle was more complete.
Our understanding of God is still very limited ("Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known." 1 Corinthians 13:12). This is not because God has not fully evolved but because we are human and we cannot grasp the infinate.

Yes I have studied the Bible 4 years in Bible college. No I do not believe God evolves or humans evolve. We cannot exceed the capacities we were designed with. That is like expecting your television to be able to go online and check our email and do your shopping. God has an immutable unchangable nature as does humanity.

I am an atheist and I have read the bible clear through several times. I do not see the evolution of the god described. However, I do see more of a schizophrenic, and at times unreasonable god described.

Oh yeah, the God of the bible has grown and been adapted over the centuries, he takes on new abilities and attributes. In the OT he's a bloodthirsty deity, in the NT God is a bit more peaceful.

God has never evolved, why should He because He is perfection itself ? What has evolved is people's perception of Him. The old Testament goes back 4,000 years ago, practically at the edge of the neolithic and perceptions have certainly changed since then. The Gospel is itself 2,000 years old and our perception of it and of God as described therein has evolved too.

I have read Scriptures through many times. No I do not see an "evolution of YHVH". The question sounds profoundly insulting to Him. He expressed Himself somewhat differently to different peole over time, is this a problem?
