well, as others have said it will be difficult to get a residence / working permit unless you have close family there...like parents, siblings, or unless you can get a job that gives you a VISA.
Also, consider that Spanish is widely spoken there in cities like San Diego, so you'll need to speak it at least a little...
But the weather will be fantastic...

The first question to answer is 'can you move to the US' and then it is a question of where to move to. Getting a visa to live in the USA is extremely difficult, unless you have immediate family (i.e. parents) who are US citizens living in the USA. The other option is to be sponsored for work by a business, but even then it generally requires you to have an advanced college degree (i.e. Master, Doctorate) in a specialized field (technology, law, medicine). I would strongly recommend checking out: http://www.british-expats.com/ for more information on some of the ways you can move to the US.
As for SoCal...it's not like London, or Newcastle or pretty much anywhere in the UK. It will definitely be an adjustment. My advice is to visit for a long period of time (you can visit on a Visa Waiver for upto 90 days) and see if it is the place for you. If so, then look at finding a way to get a visa (good luck).

Why not? You can always move back. It will be an adjustment, but isn't that the reason to try new things? Bring some sunblock!
The climate is basically Mediterranean in the So Cal area, colder and rainy (and greener) up in Northern California. It isn't exactly like it is on TV, but then what is? And if you want to gain experience in film/TV/Media, it really is the center of the media world right now.

I grew up in Orange County Southern California and you could not pay me to move back there. It was a wonderful place to grow up but it is no longer that way. It is over crowded, gang-ridden and dirty in the bigger cities. They usually only show the best looking areas on TV shows. Beverly Hills 90210 or The OC it is not. I would go there for a visit before I made that big a decision. Good Luck to you.

Check the place out first.
You can stay for 3 months in a year over there.
