Though your fever may be uncomfortable if it is low 100-102 or even moderate 102-104 you should probably just let it go for a while, it is your body's natural defense against pathogens.
If you want to get it down the best way is probably patting yourself with a wet cloth and letting the water evaporate off of you. Water evaporating off of your skin will get rid of the most heat.

Also, you can get dehydrated from having a fever so drink water or a good sports drink. Just let your body take it easy and get better.

If your fever gets really high, more than 104, you should probably take some medicine or if you can't for some reason, see/call a doctor

Depending on the age of the person with the fever the actual fever is not dangerous. It makes you uncomfortable but does not cause danger...it actually helps your body fight illness by increasing your metabolism and increasing the number of WBC's. Assuming it is a viral infection you can allow the person to have a fever without treatment assuming it is not too uncomfortable for them. Otherwise, light clothing (to reduce temperature) even though they feel cold. Also, drink cool liquids as tolerated to lower the temperature. If it is in a young child certain temperatures require medical attention.

Fever is not a disease which needs to be "cured". It is a symptom of many possible underlying conditions. e.g. Some fevers ( like night sweats ) are specific to certain conditions ( TB, HIV, et.al ) while low grade fevers are more commonly seen in Strep infections. Cure the underlying cause, and the fever will subside.

i thought it was the other way around? As a kid I was made to sweat the fever out. You took a warm shower, got a total body rub with rubbing alcohol, and then got into bed in a cacoon of blankets. A couple of hours later your fever wnt down and you were done. It worked for me many times.
