I say yes, it's possible, any trauma can be construed as child abuse under the right conditions. If a parent is constantly swearing, a child may perceive this as hostility, and will probably develop a fear of being around when the parent goes off. I would just STOP and explain to the child it was a bad habit you are now done with :)

I think that swearing in front of your kids would be abuse only if it was directed to them. But I really don't like the idea of swearing in front of children because they are sponges who will repeat everything they hear.

Maybe if you swear at them then yes. I don't think swearing or being mad in general all the time would be healthy for any child... they'll grow up mad and swearing all the time themselves.
There are things as emotional abuse- doesn't have to be just physical. ;)

child abuse would be hitting or anything physical. swearing in front of your kid, would be called a bad romodel and sad parent, do you want your kids talking that way too you or others? you saying in front of them woukd make them think its ok to say it too. I dont know about you but every time I hear a child swear in the store, I look at the parents. because the way you act at home is the way your kids act

It's not child abuse but you should try to watch your language in front of kids. They will pick up on those words and use them in their speech, usually at the most inappropriate times. My mother always said to watch your language in front of the children and she is right.

Swearing AT your kids qualifies as verbal abuse, but I don't think accidentally swearing in front of them is abusive. Or at least I hope it isn't.

NO!! There are worse things you could do to your child than curse in front of them!
I cuss like a sailor. I do try to watch what I say, but sometimes I cuss and don't even realize it. My daughters are 8 and 10yrs old. I NEVER hear either of them cuss. They know better! I've taught them, when they are adults they can talk how ever they want, but while they are children, cussing is NOT an option.

I don't consider it child abuse. Swearing at them, yes. And also, it's probably a bad idea, because it will start bad habits.

While I doubt its abuse, it certainly is irresponsible behavior. Far too many people run out and scream abuse for things that should not be considered abusive.
