It could be 28 minutes from now or 280 years from now. When the superpowers square off against each other in two camps, then come back and we'll talk world war 3.

Until then, just think regional conflicts, wars between rump states, proxy wars and brinksmanship. If you recall the Yom Kippur War in 1973, a coalition of Arab States (Egypt, Syria and Jordan) were soundly defeated by the Israelis. That was a worse situation than the current conflict and it didn't raise a blip on the world war radar (not that it didn't have the potential to spark a global war).

The next World War will involve a nuclear exchange, how could it not. In the first 30 minutes, nearly a billion people will have been vaporised, mostly in the US, Russia, Europe, China and Japan. Another 1.5 billion will die shortly thereafter from radiation poisoning. The northern hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

Eventually the nuclear winter will spread to the southern hemisphere and all plant life will die. You ask when is the apacolypse, you are asking when will we commit global suicide. My answer is it won't happen soon because the larger superpowers are more rational than the rump states in the middle east.

Our biggest risk is an accidental launch of nukes by one of the nuclear powers.

Churchill,Truman and all of the Euros leaders at the end of hostilitys immediately began preperations to take on the Soviets, China and any other country that mentioned populist Nationalist or communist.
Each side immedaiatley began to grab whatever territory they could mainly by using economic warfare held from actual combat by WMDs. real ones. the fighting never actually stopped it just simmered here and there with little skirmishes beaking out now and then.
Soviets went broke, the Chinese became capitalist and World War II seemed to be over but one side the United States and Europe, still kept gobbling up more lands and resurces until today the same war rages on but none have the power to resist by outright warfare so little groups not countrys use terrorist tactics to fight back.

If you believe in the saying that history repeats itself then it's quite possible. If you look at the recent news and see the kinds of things that are going on between Israel and Iran and compare that to the bible then it's basically the same thing happening all over again. As a matter of fact if the biblical war were named WWI then this would kind of be WWI part II.

The middle eastern countries have been having religious battles since the beginning of civilization, and things haven't changed much. So if there's going to be WW3 it's probably going to be the same war that's already happened between Israel and Iran, and of course depending on who's in office the US will be all up in the mix.

All current and future conflicts are asymmetric and not at all like the old Cold War model (tanks in front, infantry in the middle, artillery in the rear). Besides, WWI was once called, "The Great War" and "The War to End All Wars". Historical retrospection will be required before this could be known. Russia, China, the united states of a and different international places won't get entangled. the united states won't retaliate for concern of an all out nuclear conflict. they are going to grow to be in contact whilst international conflict 4 starts off.
