Maybe include satellite images of how the forests have changed over the last few years...even the images of the South American rain forests burning are quite startling.
Maybe include the animals that are losing their homes and their lives.
Greed is the driving force of this crime (my opinion) which is commonly tucked under the guise of "progress"

Good luck on your essay!

A lot of the information will deceive u. I lived in Ecuador 12 years ,and u see a lot of fires burning, sometimes u would think the hold place is being burnt. The fires u see are not burning trees as they are above the tree line. It is a technique the farmers have developed. When the grass is about 6 month old it is so tuff that the cows cannot eat it,so they burn it and in a couple of weeks there is new tender grass growing. In Ecuador down in the jungle it rained 100 in. per year. I have Sean fence post sprout and begins to grow . It was a full time job just keeping the roads open ,the jungle will take it back in a couple of months. There the rain forest is not in trouble the only thing in jeopardy is man.

Something that may not be mentioned on some sites, is the fact that if a large area of forrest is clear felled, it can release large amounts of nitrogen and phosphates into local waterways, especially rivers. This is due to water runoff washing down sites, carrying fertilizers. This can have detrimental effects for fish stocks and the ecology of the catchment area.
