The north had almost all of the industry. They were able to arm and rearm their armies quicker and cheaper with better quality. The north also had more $$. The invention of the cotton gin actually hurt the south as states to the north and countries overseas stole the patented design(and often improved on) to be able to produce thier own cheap cotton.

You should do your own homework instead of asking us. Even a simple Google search and 10 minutes of research would've given you over 50 answers why. And you should pay attention in class. I'm pretty sure your teacher didn't walk up to the front of class and give you this assignment without teaching you. It's history it's one of the easiest subjects to learn. 1) Grant who was the leader of the Union Army, never stopped fighting. Meaning since The North had such a larger population then The South he had a much larger force to use and he did, for ever troop that died he sent another 5 to take his spot and they overwhelmed them in battle. 2) The South wasn't as industrialized as the north and their supplies of guns, uniforms, and ammunition was at a constant low and with out supplies how could you fight a war? 3) The south's population was barely half of what the north had and that meant that the north had more troops to send to battle then the south. 4) The north used new war fighting techniques that completely destroyed homes and farms which meant they couldn't use the farms to feed their men. 5) The south was mainly farms and since most of them were destroyed they lost their main source of income.

1. I saw a book once that had the theory that the freer society has a greater tendency to win wars.
2. Uniform railroad tracks allowing faster communication.
3. The repeating rifle. (technically the repeater was first used by the confederacy but unioin forces used it in greater # and to greater effect.)
4. The confederates had a disorganized chain of command.
5. Better medical care in the north allowed experienced solders to return to the battlefield after being wounded.
6. The north had Superior industry. You can't win a war by chucking cotton at someone.

Main reason-- over half the resources. More men, more textiles, etc.
Many say that it was because they had something to fight for-- I'd like to clear up the rumor that the South was full of idiotic slave owners that beat their slaves.
Over 3/4 of abolitionist movements and organizations either formed or were operated in the South.
And not only does the second claim lack documentation, but also makes little sense. Slave owners viewed "their" slaves as valuable property (that fact in and of itself is enough to disgust me personally) and spent much of their income on them. Thus, they were treated as prize animals--- but animals, nonetheless, so their blindness in the perception of the human rights of all races cannot be ignored.

There really is one very realistic answer, as it is based wholly on technical advantage. The north was the first army to employ bolt action rifles using bullets, while the south was still using muzzle loaders. The north, quite simply, could fire more bullets at a faster rate.

the main reason is the same reason why the USA beat the USSR during the cold war... ECONOMICS. the south could not afford the war it was waging and the north rode the south's economy to its demise.
read any history book on the subject and this is the most prevalent answer

They had more money, factories and ships. They had a larger navy which meant more supplies were delievered to troops. They also had more railroads, they were more experienced and had mor than 10 million more soldiers than the south.
Also the south was using slaves to fight which didn't help because they were not trained and certainly not educated or given proper equipment.
The south was also at a geographic disadvantage because of the coastline. They had to spend a lot of resources defending it if they wanted to continue to get supplies through it.
