Catholics are not the only ones that use exorcism. They are the most methodical. Research is very thorough before the church will give permission for an exorcism. There are so many small unaffiliated protestant churches that no records are kept and certainly few are sent for psychological evaluations before rites are performed. I have personal knowledge of this. Larger, more organized protestant churches do have procedures for this sort of thing but you rarely hear of them.
Hope this helps.

I think all Christian Church has some way of dealing with this issue. The RC church has specific rules as to who can and how, when, why, etc. that it is done. The RC church is more organized about exorcism, which I think is a good thing. Some of the other groups do exorcisms in a very disorganized way and do not even know when one is needed and often do one when the problem is really something else. The RC church is more rational in it's approach.

You know what many Protestants think of us and our Church. If some Protestant sects believe in exorcism do you honestly think they would call a Catholic priest to perform it? On the other hand you also know that unlike the fundamentalists we are not taught that God abandons all people of other faiths. They would try to do it themselves and through the power of God would likely succeed. Fortunately we have very few cases of possession anyway.

Catholics are not the only ones that perform exorcisms. I know of people that were freed from demonic possession by Protestant exorcisms also.

I think many Christians of many denominations believe in it. Although there is no real formal ceremony, there are Christians who have a ministry in this area - both catholic and protestant - especially missionaries who see demonic activity in many countries.
P.S. To David M. - I have been in many protestant churches in my life and I have never yet been taught that catholics are not Christians or somehow don't count. I have never been taught that God abandons all people who are not fundamentalists. You should check ou the source from which you heard this and don't listen anymore.I love my savior Jesus Christ and I have been married to a wonderful catholic for 33 years. God would never abandon anyone - and no denomination has a monopoly on the truth. We all have little quirks and doctrines that are not right. But Jesus is TRUTH!

It would not be superb that there is an improve in demonic possessions. yet one element is sparkling the Church does comprehend the version from psychological ailment and demonic possession. in certainty the Church investigates earlier allowing an exorcism. And your superb a clergyman desires the approval from their Bishop to preform the ritual. I hate to permit you comprehend this the the action picture "The Exorcist" replace into based off of a genuine tale, the action picture itself replace into no longer a genuine tale. right that's a lesson approximately Hollywood. The action picture "Constantine" interior the action picture a Bishop claimed that the Church would desire to no longer carry a Mass for somebody who committed suicide. Being a Catholic for 34 years i will truthfully say that Hollywood is BS via fact the Church can provide a Mass for any Parishioner (even for suicides) that has surpassed directly to the excellent beyond, and we additionally grant a Mass as quickly as a 300 and sixty 5 days for those in Purgatory "All Souls Day". interior the Catechism of the Catholic Church 2d version that's achieveable for a suicide to be purified in Purgatory earlier entering into Heaven.

I know that Catholics aren't the only one's who perform exorcisms. There are tribes in Africa, for example, who do things like that also. I'm not too sure about in other cultures though.

No Catholics are just the only ones who use the word exorcism. Other faiths believe in the removal of demons from the soul. But all and any can 'excersie' a demon, you just have to have faith in the Lord, in Jesus' name we can do anything, you ask the Lord will grant you just need faith.

Anyone that believes in exorcism can perform one. There are just many different types, and they may not call it an exorcism.

Exorcism was practiced when Jesus walked the earth. When the religious self righteous accused Jesus of healing by the power of Beelzebub, one thing Jesus had asked them, "By what power do you exorcise with?".
Jesus said that If someone is healed by His touch, it is by the Power of God. Jesus didn't grab the person and shake them & jump on them. No, it was by the finger of God, the healing anointing.
God is delivering people from demonic oppression or possession today, and by those born of God and filled with the Holy Spirit. It is of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. One known person who isn't a Catholic, who has the gift to build faith in the person who needs healing, and build faith in the person to receive the healing, and records of people who actually were healed from serious illnesses is Benny Hinn.
He has a special faith & healing gift of the Holy Spirit and also an evangelico ministry of the Lord. People have criticized the power to be demonic also. But this is close to blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, to call the power of God evil.
