I said that, too. For years. Then it happened to me. After many tears, and many hours of emotional "discussion," I decided not to. We were together for two more years after that, most of that time very happy (and with him on a very short leash). In the end, though, it didn't work out... and that probably had something to do with it.
I still say "I would leave," but now I'm honest enough with myself that I also know in my heart that it would depend on the situation. It's all very subjective, in the end.
