getting a ticket does not automatically make you 100% at fault for an accident - however, your first step should be to contact the other party's carrier and get a claim # and status of the claim and contact person..... if things seem to be taking too long, then call your own carrier and have them subrogate.... you will have to pay your deductible upfront but when they pursue against the other carrier (and are successful) then you get your deductible back - good luck to you....

I would call the other persons insurance company first. It really depends on if you have alot of damage, but I would also call my own insurance company because many times the other persons insurance company will give you the run around and/or try to low ball you when it comes to settling the claim. Your insurance company is paid to deal with the other insurance company. Keep in mind that if it was the other persons fault and they were ticketed, your insurance shouldn't go up. Make sure that you take your car to at least 2 reputable body shops to get estimates of damage. That way you know what it will take to get your car fixed and won't just settle for an amount that possibly won't be enough to get the car fixed and back to what it was before the accident. Keep in mind that it benefits the insurance company the quicker you settle with them because that's how they save money. Make sure you have all the information needed before you agree to settle, that way you can protect yourself. If all else fails, call your local Lawyers Referral Infomation Service and ask for the name of an attorney in your area that handles property damage claims for vehicles; that way the consultation will be at a reduced price and if you are having problems the $$ spent is well worth it.

You pay a premium to your insurance company to take care of your needs concerning your vehicle. So there is no reason for you to be chasing insurance adjusters, running around getting quotes for your repair, arguing with another insurance company after your quotes have been submitted and so on. Call your own insurance company and have them handle this on your behalf, it is what you paid for.

Dont listen to the person who said that getting a ticket automatically makes you at fault. completely untrue. the insurance adjuster will do an investigation (including recorded statements, police report, scene investigations etc) to come up with a liability decision.

You may want to contact the other persons insurance first... if it gets to be several days/weeks and they havent accepted liability yet.. then its time to try your own carrier.

If you have comp, and coll then you can either call yours, and have them go after the other company for reimbursement.... But if you only have liability then I would recommend just calling the other persons insurance, because there would be nothing you insurance could do for you...

You must report the loss to your own company as required by your policy. And tickets don't determine fault, by the way.

if all you have is liability then i would just call theirs. if you have full coverage then i would call yours and let them do the work of notifying the other insurance company.
