Correction: Limewie is illegal if you use it in such a way that it breaks the law.
This includes downloading any copyrighted content for any purpose unless you're authorised to do so - Limewire does not provide authority.
How you use the songs you download, what you play them on, whether you even listen to them doesn't affect the infringement of the rules. It would be a bit like stealing clothes from a shop and saying I never wore them so it's alright.

Please pay close attention to the above two posts. You have been given erroneous information.
P2P programs such as Limewire are not illegal to own. However, downloading any copyrighted material without permission IS illegal. In fact, suppose you download software, or a song, but never install or never listen to it ... just the fact that you have it on your computer without having paid for it makes it illegal.

No, you're wrong. Limewire is legal software. Doing anything, using any software, to download music, software or movies (or anything else) covered by copyright law for free without express permission of the copyright holder is illegal. If you download music using limewire, ftp or any other program, that's illegal. You are in violation of international copyright law and facing a fine (if you are sued) of $750.00 - $150,000.00 per song.
Here are some links to educate you on the subject, since you obviously have been given some bad legal advice (hopefully not from an attorney):
