She is 15 years old, himalayan, fixed. She never did that before
and now every night she is screaming, like baby crying. I cannot
afford to take her to the vet and have them run a bill for 100's of $$.
Otherwise she is OK, eats well and sleeps all day as usual.
Does anybody have any idea? Please help!

I had a cat that screamed too, she was dying. Sounds like your kitty is in some pain. Call a vet & try to get free advise otherwise take her in and choose treatment depending on how much $ you are willing/able to spend. It may cost a lot less than you think and may save her life!!

My cat will do this too...she will walk through the house at night crying. I have no idea what this means, but my cat has passed her vet examinations every year without them catching anything wrong, so I guess there's nothing physically to worry about with your cat.

One thing that we did find out from the vet, is that as a cat gets older they lose their night vision. Perhaps she gets caught somewhere when the lights go out and has trouble finding you or her liter box or her food or water. I've noticed that my cat has started sleeping at night a lot more, so maybe you could either keep her in your room at night, or leave some nightlights around the house for her.

She may be just losing her eyesight and wanting to find you. If you can't afford a vet, look for a low-cost nonprofit animal hospital in your area to have her checked out. Does she have her own bed and can't find it or does she sleep with you and can't get up on the bed now? One thing you might want to check out is her bathroom habits - is she still going in the litter box okay? Does she seem to be struggling to go? Older cats often start to have kidney/liver failure so you'll want to check that out.

And you can find a vet that's a little more conservative in their treatment - the more common sense approach to checking things out rather than taking lots of xrays and running a lot of tests. BUT your kitty does need some care it sounds like and you do owe it to her to take good care of her.

she may be hearing other kitties outside mating and responding to the call of the wild.If you live where there are mountain lions she could be hearing them as well .I think even after you have animals fixed they still have a little desire and when she hears it coming from others she just may feel the need to communicate she's a female too.As far as anything being wrong I don't think so either,I guess it's just a cat thing .You must really love her to have had her fixed and her be 15 ,America needs a few million like you and me .I just love them all.Hope you can get some sleep I know it can drive you nuts but she should stop in 2 to 3 weeks I would think.

Well you are her mommy what kind of screaming is it? Attention seeking, pain, boredom? I used to feed my cat in the morning and at 4am it would sound like someone was torturing him. He was fine but since I was at work all day and he slept, he was ready to play. They have different yells for different emotions. He also used to yell in the hallway when I went to bed, when I ignored him, he came closer and closer to my room and then eventually gave up and went to bed. There was nothing wrong with him, but just like a kid, any attention is better than no attention. I would try to ignore it, give it a few nights and put tissue in your ear that is not on your pillow, I used to do that and you can't hear a thing. See what happens. Good luck.

Well, I've had a cat that's old like yours, and she screamed at night as well. I think its because she had lost a lot of her sight and hearing, so she felt lost and disoriented. So, she meowed as loudly as possible. Maybe try taking her to bed with you to keep her comfortable.

When cats get older, they lose their nightvision. It's scary for them, because it's different. This could be it. Just comfort her, she'll be okay.
