On wensday I went ouside to get the mail, and run my Doberman. And on my way there ( i have 5acres, it takes 2 to get to the front gate) I saw a dog in trying to get in my chained linked fence. So my Doberman ran as fast as he could, bared his teeth and hair, and wouldnt let me near the gate. So I made my doberman Get away from the gate, and I went up the the dog and it was a Pure bred pitt. he jumped up on the gate so i petted him and he was really sweet. So i let him in and automatically my doberman saw that it was okay, but towered over him to let him know he was here first. and I checked him for and I.D or tattoo but he had neither. And i asked everyone on my street if they were missing a dog, nobody did. So I made the mistake of feeding the dog becuase he was REALLY thin, and now he wont leave. I tried to push him out of the gate, and when i did, He got right back in an hour later. But i am 99.9% sure that this dog does not have a microchip.Becuase where i live, isnt really a good area, and litteraly every person on my block or within a 5 mile radius, Have unhealthy/dirty/skinny/unident... for Dog. we have animal controll vans on my street everyday, to try to save some dogs. some even stop me to thank me for having my Dobermans well cared for, and healthy. But I dont want to keep the dog if it has an owner who loves it, im looking up info now, and after im dont typing this im going to call our humane society, put up a found dog add, put poster up in our local grocery store and the works becuase if this dog does have an owner, it should go back, right? Even though it came to me unhealthy? becuase my dog and him get along REALLY GOOD, the play out in my yard for hours. and im afraid that the owner wont care for it, am i doing the right thing?

It sound like you are doing the right thing. As long as you are trying to find the dogs owner you can't be accused af stealing or anything. You should reasearch the laws in your state to find out how long you have to keep a lost dog while trying to find the owner before that dog becomes legally yours. There are laws like this but they very from state to state. If the owner does show up and they dont seem like the kind of people who are taking good care of the dog you should report them to animal control for animal abuse. Just please don't try to force the dog to leave it sounds like it is a really good dog. You are doing nothing wrong the fault lies with the person who didn't take care of their dog.

Although the dog was in poor health and care, it could have been that the dog escaped from a fenced in run or backyard and the owners have been unable to track him down. I suggest going to the local shelters and posting flyers, as well as in the grocery stores and other local gathering places. If no one claims him within 2-3 weeks, it is yours. It sounds like the pet has been homeless for quite awhile now so most people won't be searching for it. If you ask the humane societies, however, they often have a "lost" board, website or phone line.

For your sake, I hope that the owner is actually a nice person who treated the dog wonderfully and a mistake happened.

Sounds like you live in a rural area...

Many people take their dogs out to the country and just "let them go". So he may have been dumped.

You're doing the right thing.

Post flyers, but do not give details about the dog, for his own sake. Just put "Found Dog" plus your number and the date you found him. As people call, have them describe the dog to you. You'll know for sure if that person is THAT dog's owner. Some people answer the found dog ads just to get a free pet.

Since you don't know how long the dog had been roaming it's hard to say whether the dog was well taken care of or not by its owners. Err on the side of good and assume the owner did take care of him and is missing him and looking for him. Keep on letting the community know you have the dog and are searching for its rightful owner. Good luck!

In my opinion - the dog is YOURS.
If you found him in poor condition & you will take better care of him - then keep him! It would be wonderful of you to give this dog a home.
Anyone's dog can get loose - my friend shows Am Staffs (aka Pit bulls) and one of her dogs got loose & she lives in a big city.
Thank GOD someone found him & turned him in to the humane society - and thank God the humane society didn't put him to SLEEP which some places do to Pit Bulls.
Anyway- he was in great condition of course - so the person who found him took him to AC & they scanned him & he has a microchip & she got him back.
The dog you found is obviously uncared for & he is lucky to have been found by you!
I would definitely keep him.

well i would say that if you have a local newspaper put an add in there, talk to your local vet and if you don't get any answers for a few weeks than you can keep the dog as long as it and your doberman get along.

Well, I never thought Brad Pitt was hot. He's a good actor and cute but I wouldn't consider him hot.
