try mixing it in juice or some kind of sweet food, that will mask the flavor a little bit. Or, if he's not a baby, try explaining to him that he will not get better and will become sicker, and will have to stay in the hospital if he doesn't take his medicine. I know it's kind of cruel to scare them, but it does work!
Also, with my daughter, I tell her take take it real fast and then quick have her take a drink. I talk to her like she's running a marathon. "Quick, hurry, hurry, take the medicine, Ok, OK! Hurry, take a drink, quick, goo, go, GOOOO!" She thinks it's funny, and forgets about the medicine.

I used to have my kids take their medicine and QUICKLY put a popsicle or hard candy in their mouth. Seemed to help get the yucky taste out quicker. Also, keeping the medicine cold helps the taste a little bit.

How old? If he is old enough to understand feeling bad and feeling better, reason with him. If he is too young are you able to put the pill into a food he will gulp (like ice cream, maybe).
If he is old enough, explain that sometimes we have to do things we do not like, and then maybe give him something to reward his compliance, either a cookie, or a hug or something he likes.
Hope this helps.

Either tell him that he get's no dessert unless he has his medicine. Or give him a treat if he does swallow it.
Another choice would be to just ask and see if you can get it flavored.

ask the pharmacist to flavor it. some pharmacies have cherry, grape, or bubble gum flavoring that they can add to liquid meds. it's very important that he takes them. good luck!
