You will be liable for anything that happens with that car if it is in your name. That means that if the car gets towed (because he was driving without a license, for instance), you're on the hook for the towing fees. If he gets parking, red light camera, or toll violations in that car, then you are responsible for paying them. If he commits a crime in the car, the police are going to be knocking on YOUR door, not his. Also if it is YOUR car, then YOU are the one that's going to have to insure it, register it, etc.

If you are not driving the car, and you don't own it, there is NO reason for you to put your name on the registration. Your boyfriend's assumption that he'll be harassed less by the police is incorrect. In fact, he may run into MORE of a hassle, because the police are going to be wondering why he's driving a car that is registered to someone else (a female with a different last name).

Tell your boyfriend to register his own car. If you guys break up, trust me, it'll be a lot easier this way. That way you won't have to mess with transferring ownership, paying for his tickets, worrying about his insurance and registration, etc.

I say go a head and do it. Make sure he pays for everything and if you ever break up legally the car is yours. Tell him get a nice one. Just remember if he is on you insurance policy when he gets his license back your premium will go through the roof. Honestly it probably isn't that good of an idea. The police don't care who owns the car. They care about who is driving the car when you are pulled over. Me personally I would never put anything in some one Else's name or let any one put anything in my name till you are married. It tends to make for bad blood.

To begin with you probably couldn't being under 18. But even if you could, would you want to?

If he is in a wreck and either doesn't have insurance in place, or the damages are over what the insurance will cover, who do they go after for the money? If you answered "The owner of the vehicle." go to the head of class. Remember, as the owner you are responsible for insurance, and he will have to be a named driver. If there is an unpaid parking ticket, who gets the bill? Yep, right again.

If he gets his license suspended again, and gets stopped and the vehicle is towed, guess who is responsible for the tow bill?

If he says "If you really loved me, you'd do it" reply "If you really loved me, you wouldn't ask!"

Good luck. (Tell him 'daddy says I can't.')

i do no longer comprehend why everyone would have lied in this difficulty. yet i think that would not count, via fact what's finished is finished. you would be able to desire to be charged with coverage fraud. quit each and every little thing appropriate now, and basically confess. tell definitely everyone - your dad, the police, the coverage firms, the condominium corporation - what certainly and definitely got here approximately. The coverage firms and the condominium corporation will determine all of it out. in case you permit it circulate too long, and that's stumbled on that somebody lied, somebody would be charged with submitting a faux report, and would desire to stand probation or perhaps penitentiary time. No considerable crimes have been committed yet. so as cliché because it may appear, in this actual difficulty, the certainty shall set you loose. EDIT: Stuart would or won't be appropriate. If I represented the coverage corporation, i'd attempt to subrogate the declare, in seek of damages out of your BF, who replace into certainly utilising the automobile on the time. so which you would be able to desire to get arrested (for submitting a faux report or for coverage fraud) and your BF would desire to get sued (for the wear and tear to the condominium automobile). in case you confess now, no person will care and that they're going to do basically their jobs. in case you wait too long, however, human beings would have a vested activity interior the region, and that they're going to choose retribution. basically fess up, and each little thing will paintings out they way that's meant to paintings out.

He's blowing smoke and he's full of BS. If your name is on the registration and he gets into an accident, or has multiple tickets, in your car, you could lose your ins. and registration for allowing a nit wit to use your car.......nononono...If it is registered in your name it is your car. You are responsible........

my car is in my fiancees name and i get pulled over all the time. hes not trying to avoid getting pulled over, he just doesn't want to pay insurance on a car in his name. its too expensive when you get in trouble driving. plus if you break up, YOU WILL LEGALLY OWN THE VEHICLE.
