people say that i have a talent with dogs. my sister has a dog who has nipped my mom, brian, her 2 owners, and one of her secondary owners, vicky. she has never bitten me, while i only come over not very often to see midnight, i have played with her roughly, and i hav still never really even been play-bitten. and my mom and brian think she has a mental problem, and i think shes just protective. my mom always tells me not to walk to strange dogs (i know im not supposed to), even a vicious dog, but i still do, and i never get bit. one time i was sitting on my aunts bed after her dog had puppies, and the dog was very protective so i was just sitting there, and the mother wasnt in the room, and when she came in, she laid down to nurse them, and saw that there was someone on the bed. she jumped to me, stopped, and went back down. i dont know if im just lucky or what, but some say i have a talent. do i?

Dog whisperer is just a new name for techniques that have been known for years. Some people decidely do have a knack with animals. You either have it or you don't, but anyone can learn to deal with animals.

Approaching strange dogs or new mothers is just plain stupid. I hope your luck doesn't run out. I've been handling dogs for 40 years and I know enough to give them their space. They don't like to be crowded, let them come to you.

Some people do have a special knack for working with animals. Hard to say if you do or not, people with a natural ability to work with dogs are fairly rare. I have been teaching training classes for 25 years and have seen a few newbies come in who just get it, but it doesn't happen very often.

"my mom always tells me not to walk to strange dogs (i know im not supposed to), even a vicious dog, but i still do,"

That is just plain reckless. When you get bit I hope the dog doesn't pay the price for your lack of judgement.

There is NO WAY I would ever allow a stranger in the room with newborn puppies, it is way to much stress for the dam and she deserves privacy from strangers.

'Dog Whisperer' is just a stupid name anyhow, and I doubt any of the trainers I know would want to use such a stupid slogan to get clients.

Ginbail - LMAO!!! I have done it all wrong!!!

I am the same way. I have never hard the saying "dog whisperer" but hey sounds good to me. I have always been able to talk and be around animals that most people wouldn't be able too. I was always told I had a gift with animals but never really thought of myself as gifted. I love animals and I treat them as I would anyone else. As to your sisters dog, I agree that Midnight is being protective but Midnight also senses they are afraid. Show them how to be around Midnight and tell them to feel more comfortable around her. Have them play with her like you do or some other form of playing, like throwing a toy or teaching her tricks. she senses things with people and she doesn't like to be feared. Just keep playing and loving midnight. Even if you are the only one she will give love back.

I do the same thing and never been bit. But becareful some dogs can be crazy. You have a nice smell to you the dog are not afraid of you and they know that you are not trying to hurt them. They can tell when ppl are uneasy around them and it sends off bad vibes causing them to have a higher stress level and making them nip/bite. You have a way of putting them at ease.

To be a "Dog Whisperer" ...
First, sneak into the US from Mexico illegally. Then connect with celebrities and influential people through their pets. Next, use these people to help you clear your immigration status. Also use them to give you publicity to start your own dog training business. Then use them to get you your own TV show, book and appearance contracts. Before long, you will be able to market yourself as a "Dog Whisperer" or any other title you and your publicist can dream up.
Good luck!

Apparently you have an affinity with dogs. To label yourself as a 'dog whisperer' is really not important.

When you finally do get bit, you'll know you're not a dog whisperer.
