It depends on how the doctor treats you when you go. I have had Post Natal Depression and then everything was too much trouble but luckily I had a great Health Visitor who referred me to the doctor. I now suffer with anxiety and have found a fantastic doctor who actually listens to me before they start making out a prescription. I find that the listening has helped as much as the drugs. I am now off of the medication after 6 months but know that it is just a matter of time before the anxiety attacks come again. You have to make the most of feeling good but as soon as symptoms start, I will be off to the doctors before it goes too far. Hope this helps, if yo are not happy with the GP who you see at the moment, don't be frightened to ask for a second opinion, some are "old school" and prescribe "old school" medicines whereas those who are newly qualified tend to go for different ones. Good luck-it will get better!

It is a hassle especially when I have been trying to see all of these different types of doctors for years for these conditions and I never seem to get better. The last psychiatrist finally admitted to me that I am "treatment resistant" meaning that the meds either don't work or cause me too many bad side effects that I can't stay on them...I am sick of even trying anymore. I have been on so many meds that I can't remember them all. Now I have a seizure disorder and I have that to deal with on top of all of my mental health issues...I just want to find some peace in my life.

Yes! it is a hassle going to the Drs as i have anxiety & panic attacks & my biggest fear is leaving the house, & guess what, u have to leave ya house to see the Dr, so every trip to the Drs is unpleasant for me until my meds kick in & start working.

I never went to a doctor, I wanted to beat my deep depression myself and I did succed but it took several long years. It would probably be much easier if I visited a doctor. I was always afraid to get some pills that would affect my thinking... I did however suffer from deep depression that was there for more than 18 years.
Now I'm happy I never visited the doctor hehe. There are great natural ways to help with depression and anxieties and these techniques helped me to totally beat my depression

Absolutely, and when I did go it was such a waste of time that I wish I hadn't bothered. The doctor had absolutely no interest in what was actually wrong with me and just wanted to bung me on Prozac and chuck me out the door. I eventually got him to send me to a councellor who was bloody useless too. If you haven't got the absolute classic symptoms of depression, then they don't know what to do with you!!

It's probably more of a case of the damn waiting room! Sitting there is an anxious moment for most with mental health problems? Am i right?
