I have had him for six months and he was ten weeks old when i got him, he is a lone love bird and seemed to be attached to me, he was very tame for the first three months, he would sit on my shoulder perfectly content, for hours, and he was very quiet. I would have him out for three or four hours every night. Then after three months he started biting me. I showed him not to be scared of my finger by scratching his neck when it approached him and that problem was cured, but lately if he is in his cage he squawks loudly and rattles his bars until he is let out. When I let him out he sits on my shoulder for no more than five minutes before flying away to go in my ficus, or sit on top of his cage, and when he flies there he is still not happy, he will keep flying back and forth between the two, and he makes very angry squawks, if i approach him he will fly to the ficus, or to the cage. Is there any way i can stop this behavior?

He's getting close to sexual maturity, so it'll get worse in terms if unwanted behaviour. Maybe he needs more time out of the cage or more toys to stay busy. If he has a small cage, that could be the problem. He has all this energy that he can't release because there's no space for him to release it in without him hitting something. If he has toys that are boring to him or no toys at all, he's going to act out in a way that displays just that, how bored he is.

Many lovebirds enjoy shreddable toys made of wood, paper, cardboard, corn husks, anything he can tear through. I find my lovebirds think bells are awesome, too, because when they play with it, it gives them back the reaction of the noise it makes. You can teach him that coming to you is a good thing by offering treats for coming to you, but to get him to stay, I'm not sure what you could do. Lovebirds are typically very energetic clowns and I know mine won't stay still long unless they're planning a nap.

You may be misinterpreting his squawks. My birds are very loud, and because of the pitch that lovebirds have, it does come off as threateningly loud. An angry squawk would be similar to if you were petting him and he didn't want you to (if you've heard that kind of squawk before). It's high pitched and actually sounds similar to a person yelling "HEY" in an annoyed way.

Welcome to the crazyness that is lovebirds. I have one and let me tell you they are the strangest and most entertaining birds you will ever have. It sounds like he is board. You should try different kinds of toys. For instance you can try giving him a hard plastic cup to play in or, this may sound strange but my bird has one and loves it, give him a metal hamster wheel to run around in. Also they love to chew up things and mostly destroy them so give him an empty cardboard box, just make sure it doesn't have any tape or sticky glue on it that could hurt him. I hate to tell you this but Lovebords are not quiet birds they love to make noise but will get angry if you make loud noises. I think you just have to go with the flow he likes to fly around because this is good exercise for him. More toys and more things to keep him occupied will help get ride of some of his energy, which they seem to have an adundance of. You will find it quite amusing to see your bird rolling around in a cup.
