I always found drugs effective, try percocetes, or another painkiller with codeine.

There is only one rule in dealing with pain: STOP what you are doing. When your muscles cramp, they are done until they recover, so if you push yourself during cramps, you are like to tear the muscle, and any further exercise won't build strength anyhow once you have reached this point. Besides diet, there are only a few helpful things you can do to maximize your strength training: (1) stretch before and after exercise; (2) take a magnesium supplement once or twice a day to avoid cramps; (3) remain fully hydrated while training; (4) train within your limits - if you can't do 10-12 reps without struggling, you are using too much weight; and (5) learn to know the difference between the feeling of a fatigued muscle and the feeling of an overly stressed muscle, and stop when you have reached you limit.
