~~~ Denver,,,, I first read JLS at age 21,,, and it has served me well as an Inspirational Metaphor for what I found to be the Foundational Messages inherent in the teachings of Taoism, The Law of Karma, Jesus, Krishna, Buddha, Reincarnation, Transcending The Self (ego), etc, etc, It is a Wonderful Allegory of The Divine Within and how to use Freewill(potential) to Transcend selfish 'needs' and focus on Growth of The Soul,,, thus to become an Enlightened Being. For me it is all found in the quote to JSL, ,,"Look with your Understanding,,,Find out what you already know,,,,And you will learn the way to Fly." ~ At a young age I was exposed to Esoteric Knowledge of Eastern Thought and studied The Great Thinkers of History,,, I was also exposed to the Esoterica of Asian Martial Arts,,,,JSL teaches us the Exact same principles in the Developement of Our Potential as Spiritual Beings while having our Human Experience here on Earth School. ~~ Your intuitiveness on selecting a Fine Path to Higher Knowledge is right on. Keep Inquiring,,,, and Reading,,,and you will find the way to fly,,,
Not deeply inspired but inspired to a point, yes I believe there is some truth to his theory.
My dad was very inspired by it - he went on about it for weeks. Called it a 'metaphor for life'
I thought it was kinda hokey. JLS's quest for "higher! faster!" seemed rather egotistical to me, a parody of a spiritual quest rather than an actual one.
I was not impressed with it, personally. I like Rod McKuen's work though.
I was sure it was a parody of some sort when I first heard it.
