my home owners association has set guidelines on our walls... stucco brick only. we live on a corner lot and people walk by all the time. my dog just wants to see them and she can't but she can hear them so she constantly is jumping on the wall to look over. how can i get her to stop this?! she's scarring the people walking by and not too mention causing a heck of a lot of damage to the stucco on the wall. we've tried everything but can't get her to stop which in turn has caused us to have to block her off of that portion of the yard which sucks for her. want her to have access to the entire backyard. please help!

Sounds like she just wants to be able to see out- try to come up with a way that she could. Otherwise, can you put up a trellis or plant bushes up against the wall so she can't get to it?

Could you use some decorative bricks that have gaps in them that will allow your dog to see through the gaps so that she doesn't feel the need to jump up? Or possibly just leave a gap between some of the bricks? A crenellated top to the wall might also work where there are lower areas for her to see over (with some accents like a thick black chain to bring the lower areas up to the 'same' height as the rest of the wall, this could look quite attractive while making the wall more secure for the dog). All of these can be stucco'ed to conform to the local guidelines while still making things easier on your dog and your wall. To reduce the scare factor, you could post a notice on the wall about your nosey dog who just wants to see what is going on!

Alternatively, a platform of some sort in part of the garden where your dog can spend her days people-watching to her heart's content may make things easier on the hearts' of passers-by!

Good luck - I am STILL trying to stop my cats from jumping on the counters. Why is is that our pets always enjoy most the things they should not do?!?

Maybe you can make her a small platform that is far enough away from the fence so she can see but not so close that she can jump over to the other side. She can have a far view of "whats over the fence".

I can understand her frustration at not being able to see what she is hearing.

Or put a smaller fence so she cannot jump up on the wall. It is important to either keep her away or help her see because she will become nuerotic and always try to "see whats out there". Everytime you let her out she will run straight to the wall. Thats how My dog is about this tree in our backyard. He just knows that there are some squirels up there. He can't see 'em but he knows so he is always sitting under the tree staring up.
