You can get a serious stomachh upset with codeine taken on an empty stomac, but it doesn't cause ulcers itself. most ulcers are bilaterally induced, usually from milk products.

Codeine tabs do not cause ulcers.
However codeine is very addictive. This is an opiate like heroin. I chose many years ago not to prescribe this drug, mainly because of its addictive potential.
It is however prescribed and purchased in gigantic quantities in UK, especially in the West of Scotland where I practise,
I believe there is little excuse for its use since it is only 5% more potent than simple paracetamol, which is not addictive.

Codine is a strong pain killer and must be taken after food this is very important as it lines the stomach, just eat before you take them??

I don't know if it gives you ulcers, but I do know many people are intolerant to codeine. I get very sick when I take codeine. I can't seem to stop throwing up.

Codeine will upset you're stomach so you will be advised to eat before taking them. Codeine doesn't contain paracetamol although there are pills with codeine and paracetamol combined.

What problems? Main side effect is constipation.They DON'T contain paracetamol or aspirin if they are called just codiene and are 30 mg.

Codeine tears my stomach up!!! Talk to the doctor there is a synthetic type of codeine that can be prescribed.
