If you want portability then get a Macbook Pro. If you don't then a Mac Pro may be a suitable choice. If you are asking this question then you don't need a 12-core Mac Pro. If you want a powerful Mac desktop then consider a high end iMac or single processor Mac Pro. The 3.33GHz 6-core Mac Pro is much more popular than the dual processor Mac Pros, as it is faster than all of them for most people's usage. Even the 3.2GHz quad core is. The main difference between dual and single processor Mac Pros, besides the number of cores is the amount of memory supported. 4 DIMMs on the single, 8 on the dual. The differences between the iMac and the Mac Pro are really upgradability (besides the obvious like processor speed and a built in display). The Mac Pro has room for expansions in the form of PCI-E cards, future graphic card updates, more memory (can use 8GB DIMMs), more internal storage. Really be aware that more processing power gets very expensive at the highend, 3.33GHz 6-core, 2.66GHz and 2.93GHz 12 core, while only really offering those who are doing extremly demanding processor intesive work a time saving. That's all it is by the way, a time saving method. All current Macs can run the same software.

If you live near a city that has a university then you can go to the college bookstores and buy professional art supplies from them. Hobby Lobby and Michaels are also good places to shop. You can also look on Ebay.

Ask some of the artist who's work you consider top of the line. Generally their office will tell where they buy supplies or sell them.
