While my husband and I were in IRAQ we hired "Family Counseling " to pay our bills upon our return we found our that all our accounts were chargedoff. The "Family Counseling Center" we hired payed only the first 3 months and nothing after. We were gone for 19 months so for 16 months nothing was paid. We have tried to locate this company and no luck, the police have told us to move on and count our losses; so did the investigator we hired; the lawyer we've been paying have no good news either. We want to buy a home and and automobile and no luck. For fighting a war this is our payment in return "Damage Credit", we payed $1640 a month to these people. Anyone with any suggestion.

Wow. This sucks!! I'm really sorry. This is why periodically checking your credit is a good idea for everyone, everywhere.

You sound like you've pursued every legal avenue. Next would be to contact all the credit bureaus and dispute all the items and supply them with police reports. Do the same with your credit card accounts and see if you can't persuade them to atleast delete the accounts from your credit. You might get some of them off and improve your score.

You also want to find out if they sold the charged-off amounts to collection companies-- you can be dinged all over again when it pops up with collections. Contact them asap and get the stuff straightened out.

This "Family Counseling" group of dirtbags stole from you - a pretty lousy thing to do to anybody, let alone someone deployed to Iraq. Unfortunately, sounds like they've skipped and can't be found, so you probably don't have a lot of recourse.

You can put a note of explanation in your credit files with the three major credit reporting agencies, and your explanation should be reported to anyone checking your credit. That might not do a lot of good, but can't hurt.

I'd sit down with someone in the loan department at a local bank and talk to them, explaining the situation. If your credit was good before this happened, they might be able to help you, or at least suggest someone who can.

Thank you for defending our country. So sorry this happened to you while you were gone.

No good deed goes unpunished. THANK YOU for protecting us through your service overseas. Find a local newspaper columnist who sees your plight an exciting opportunity for a touching story. Put your story into his/her column. Have him/her challenge the local lenders to step to the plate and grab the HONOR of helping you guys get back on your feet. Always keep in mind that there is plenty of money out there looking for borrowers, a lot of it will be local, and your circumstances fall WAY outside of the standard credit rating formulae. Fly the flag and beat your drum a little. You've earned the right! I think you'll find your local newspaper's readers eager to honor your service and eager to celebrate the first banker who steps up. This all presumes, of course, that your prior credit history is passable. Best of luck. I salute you.

You need to talk to a credit counselor - they will explain your rights and the means you need to rectify this situation. Since this is a case of fraud and you have a police report you can submit this to the credit reporting agencies for clarification. Also the checks you submitted to the service you described should have payee information on them. This seems to me that the services you are engaging are falling short of offering real assistance. Good Luck!
