While my husband and I were in IRAQ we hired "Family Counseling " to pay our bills upon our return we found our that all our accounts were chargedoff. The "Family Counseling Center" we hired payed only the first 3 months and nothing after. We were gone for 19 months so for 16 months nothing was paid. We have tried to locate this company and no luck, the police have told us to move on and count our losses; so did the investigator we hired; the lawyer we've been paying have no good news either. We want to buy a home and and automobile and no luck. For fighting a war this is our payment in return "Damage Credit", we payed $1640 a month to these people. Anyone with any suggestion.

Sorry for you trouble and thanks for serving. Sometimes the local police depts seem to have no clue or just don't care, sorry but I think theft by deception of thousands of dollars is a serious crime. Have your lawyer file a police report then follow up with the local prosecutor. Your best hope of getting your money back is that the criminals pay restitution to the court as part of a plea agreement.
Have your lawyer write a short letter to each of your creditors explaining what happened. Include a copy of the police report.

Ask them to stop any collection efforts, list the accounts as part of legal proceeding, and if they would like to be understanding they could waive any late fees and other penalties. Tell them you want to get all the balances cleared up, but that will take some time. Throw in a reference to the Soldiers and Sailors Act, you probably are not effected by that, but it may help the lender cut you a break.
The attorney needs to find a reason for the bank to legally undo your default, they can't do just for any reason. Maybe you offer: they clear your payment history cleared, put the balance on another account, which would probably be closed, then you make regular payments.
Worst case, you accept your bad credit and attempt to settle on each account for 20-40% of the balance. If you do this get a settlement letter and KEEP it on file.
Good luck

what is the actual name of the company
(why would you want to protect them)
If you find the name of the company, you can find out who owned this company and go after them.
I cannot believe that a private investigator could not find out the name of the person who leased whatever building that they were in .
What does the back of the checks that you sent to them say?

anyway you can talk to the bank and see if they can do something like take the money from those accounts since it was not being used for what you specified.
do you have a contract with them in writing.
see about getting some clues from there.
since they did pay for the first few months.
Contact your creditors and see how they paid them.
If it was by check, then you have some clue who sent what to where
you can also get some signatures off of the checks that they have already sent out.
I cannot believe the police department would tell you to just walk away from over 16k.
Since yoiu are in the military, I would call my congressmen. A phone call from an aide would make this a hard case to ignore.

Damn, that's awful......

I haven't heard of this before....I hope you can find these pieces of crap......

I'm sorry ,I really don't know what can be done...you could contact your states attorney general and maybe the better business bureau and see if they have received any complaints about these people...and if they have any leads on their where abouts.....

I just don't understand the police telling you to forget about it...fraud is against the law....they should be investigating this..not trying to sweep it under the rug,so to speak.....something don't sound right..just because they don't have any leads...doesn't make it an open and shut case.......

i actually will no longer be able to grant help to with the counseling corporation that ripped you off. As on your bills being charged off mutually as you have been on energetic accountability, nicely, you and your husband would desire to look into the infantrymen' and Sailors' Civil alleviation Act. I did grant a link under. I certainly wish it facilitates!
