There are no true atheists. In order to be an atheist, you'd have to have traveled the universe and found there to be no God. Science has not advanced enough to allow a person to do such. So atheists, are misinformed or liars.

If they just believe that there is no God, then that takes faith, sounds like a religion.

While no self proclaimed atheist has been in the White House, Abe Lincoln had absolutely no church affiliation. While he called on God in some of his speeches, his close friends and business associates admitted that he was highly skeptical. During the civil war he was approached by the clergy and asked to start a movement to put God in the constitution. Being every bit the politician, he simply ignored their requests but kept the promises coming. And yes, it is sad that no one as yet can publicly admit that they are atheist and get elected to office. Politicians regardless of personal belief must do the "appropriate dance" to gain the favor of the public. I am sure that many of them do.

It's probably true. There are a lot of people who consider atheists to be untrustworthy or immoral. George Bush senior even went so far as to suggest that they were unpatriotic. I'm not saying that I agree with that sentiment, but it is out there. Until it changes an atheist is going to have a hard time being taken seriously as a candidate. It does make me wonder who would do better in a head to head race; an atheist or a Muslim.

People generally want to see a husband and wife in the White House, and if they're young maybe some children. People look for their leaders for an example, and all previous presidents have attended some form of Christian church.

I hope that an atheist runs soon! Just look at how many people have died in wars all over the word because of GOD! There is way too much religion in world/us politics right now,

Churchianity is a pagan religion. Atheism is the general description of many who would not specifically claim that title. The truly unelectable is the one who holds to the faith of YAHOSHUA the savior!

That does piss me off. It seems Americans would elect anyone before an Atheist.

Hopefully that will change soon.
