There is an old trappers trick for cleaning the fur on a pelt, it also works well on a tanned pelt. Lay it flat on table or floor and rub into the fur plain cornmeal ( like your Momma made her cornbread with). The cornmeal will absorb the oils and dust from the fur leaving it clean. To remove cornmeal from fur, just shake like you would a rug. It comes out easily, leaving fur clean and natural.

Like anything else on the wall, It's gonna collect dust and filth. Take it to a taxidermist and have it done. He should be able to give you some good maintenance tips as well.

MY suggestion would Be to take it to a taxidermist. He or she should be able to tell you what to do. If you don't want to take it there you could always take a feather duster and go over the hide. You never want to take a vacuum over it, it will pull all the fur out.

I beg your pardon. If you bought a 'skinned cougar' that means you have the carcass minus the skin. Must be quite smelly by now. I'd advise digging a hole and burying it before the maggots start to get bad.
