There are not many. You may hear two or three at the most calling back and forth to each other. Very illusive. It is a small songbird but cannot get close enough to see what color or markings. It is that same song over and over.

Most likely a mocking bird in southern LA, but wouldn't rule out a quail either. Ask some of the local hunters in your area, they should be able to help you out.

I would say it is a mocking bird. The pair that lives in my yard bark, meow, do a baby cry, and crow like a rooster as well as the human whistle. I live in Kentucky.

I had this happen back home (country south of Dallas Tx about an hour) it was a mocking bird.

its gotta be a mocking bird. ive lived in louissianna near fort polk and i used to hear the same thing

Brother is my nearest kinfolk member and he lives approx. 5560 Miles away : o i'm close to Aberdeen in Scotland he's close to Chaing Mai in Thailand , , yet kinfolk clever there is basically us and his spouse and a pair of youngsters left.
