Coving is not dated it goes in and out of style and has done for centuries. When I had mine done I had the coving taken around the fitted wardrobes and above the windows the coving is set inwards so the curtain rails are behind it which if anything helps prevent dust.Where I live it is very hot and dusty and the coving is about the only place which isnt a problem because it is difficult for dust to settle.

Coving is not really a dust trapper. A simple coving with no pattern is not old fashioned and gives a room a much more finished look. It's also easier to decorate for the future as you have a definite edge. I had coving in some rooms, but not others when I moved here. As I've been updating rooms, I've added coving and it looks much more "finished." Doesn't have to cost the earth either.

If it was up to me I would not put coving in the bedroom unless it would have originally been a feature of the house. I do not think that it would be a dust trap, but as you have said if you are going to put in fitted wardrobes you may be putting too many features into your room.

Sounds like the room would look better without coving. I would not say that coving is a dust trap.
Usually best to match the other rooms in your house. If other bedrooms have coving, it would be better to put coving in this room

What kind of house do you have? If it is a period house (eg Edwardian), and coving would be in keeping with the style of the house, then I would strongly recommend it.
If you have a modern house, however, then the inclusion of 'period' features isn't necessarily appropriate or desirable.
Hope that helps!

If anything, go with crown molding... looks great, not a dust catcher... returns $ when you sell.
