go to your local junkyard and bring a man with you to remove a good one from a junked one........you can find one for half the price but make sure the car your removing it out of is only wrecked

You can go to a salvage yard and get a used transmission, but unfortunately you have no way of knowing if it's good. If it isn't they will give you another to test, but you're out the money paid out to have it installed.

If you want good, you want rebuilt, which isn't cheap, but it's the better way to go. Have your mechanic pull yours, take it to a rebuilder and trade for a good rebuilt, and install it for you. That will probably be best overall.

If I were you, I would NOT get one from a junk yard, because it is sold as is. Get a rebuilt one from one of the transmission place, which comes with a limited guarantee.

I find all my used parts on www.car-part.com. It searches all the junk yards around that are part of the holander parts exchange. You just enter your info into it and where your located and it gives you a list of who has it how many miles are on it and price...ect.

car-parts.com They have fairly cheap and decent products. The parts have a rating system in place. Just remember that you are buying used equipment. It is where I got my 3.5 motor for my upcoming project.
