I am visitng Buffalo fromLondon to get my canadian residence permit and once I ger that I am planning to enter canada to validate my visa.

Can I travel by bus or train from Buffalo to Toronto. How does the immigration check happen when crossing the border into canada? Will I be able to validate my residence permit?

I am pretty sure a passport will be fine. Starting in 2008, it will be required of all american citizens (not sure about people from outside the US) to have a passport when crossong the border between the US and Canada or Mexico. As for right now, I've heard you don't need one. But I would suggest calling or stopping by any post office (they are a gov. office & issue passports) and explaining your situation. They will be able to answer your question or at least point you in the right direction.
As for traveling by bus or train, I have no idea - sorry!
