Success as measured in this world is not the same as success measured in God's eyes. Bill Gates might be doing well now and so may many other agnostics/atheists, along with many others. But for those who believe in God know that this life on Earth is only temporary. A person might live as much as 105 years on Earth but they will either spend eternity in hell or heaven depending on their faith. So here on Earth we may have good people and evil people prospering at the same time however, it is no indication of how you will spend your eternity.

Take Care, With Love and Prayers, Smitha

P.S. I didn't know Bill Gates was an Agnostic/Atheist, but I do admire him for all the funding and help that he has given towards HIV awareness and prevention in India along with all the other humanitarian efforts he has made. Maybe in time he will find God. As Christians, one can only pray and guide others, not judge.

I once had a conversation with a Christian during which I pointed out several problems with the credibility of the Bible. The next day he said that he had given some serious thought about what I had said and then, suddenly, he felt as if a heavy load was taken off his shoulders when he realized he could no longer believe the Bible. He thanked me. So I guess different people have different reactions. You should be content in knowing that you are now are free of the myths and superstitions of the past and can now appreciate having an unchained mind.

Actually, Bill Gates definitely is smarter and works harder than most of us. So generally, he is successful because he makes himself be. Nothing to do woth God at all, unless the Heavens use Microsoft as well.

You must understand that there is a difference between the god that you believe in and the actual god. The god you believe in must agree with your views, and if you dislike something then god must dislike it too, pretty arrogant don't you think? The real god does not interfere and lets us learn on our own. This is not an insult but you need to know that many people think they are worshiping god but are really worshiping an extension of themselves.

I don't know what people/religious/cultural group this is directed to, so I'll describe myself before relaying my opinion.

I'm an American/Christian/Caucasian, and I'll be answering this question biblically and then sarcastically.

All through the Bible, God allows bad things to happen to good people and good things to happen to bad people with only one explanation: He causes the rain to fall on the just and the injust.

Well, if God only blessed certain groups (Christians, Muslims, Jews), pretty soon there'd be no atheists, and thusly no more Yahoo! Answers "Religion and Spirituality" section. Without this section, hundreds of crazy fundies would be running through the streets, and pretty soon there'd be an increase in traffic accidents because of so many "honk if you know where you're going" posterboards, and that many dead people makes it hard for St. Peter to keep up. St. Peter can't keep up, so he submits formal complaints to God, who has to listen to even MORE whining everyday, all because He wasn't good to all of creation.

See what a mess that would be?

P.S. -- Have fun going through all the answers on this one.

Why does God let babies die? Why doesn't God heal amputees? I'm certain that if there is a God, He/She/It does not intervene in the workings of the physical world. God might watch us like a TV show or an ant farm, but nothing beyond that.

What makes you think he cares who is successful in business or not? It does not buy a person salvation. Your riches are not found in your wallet, but in your heart, and the condition of the heart is what God will look at to determine if you're one of those to survive Armageddon.
