Every one I have ever spayed licked their stitches. I would be very surprised if she took them out. I've never had that happen and have had at least 35 dogs spayed in my life. Unless you notice that she has actually gotten some out I would not worry about it. Licking an injury or incision is a very natural thing for a dog to do.

There are two options; first you can correct her when she starts pulling on them by giving her a loud and sharp "NO" command when she does it. This way she will understand that you are not pleased and after a few corrections she will associate the correction with her action and stop doing it. Or you can get an Elizabethan Collar. The only problem with these is that if worn too long or if the dog runs into things it could cut into her neck. There is a new version of the collar that is more of a neck brace and has padding inside. This is safer and allows her to drink water and roam about without the frustration of the Elizabethan Collare. Here is a link with a picture. You might be able to find one at a local vet office.

The vet should have given you a lampshade collar. it goes over there heads and it stops them from bitiing and licking cause they cant reach. Im really shocked the vet didnt give you one a t-shirt is no good! you can buy them from pet stores as well. Please get one as if she continues to lick she will make the area sore which could lead to infection ect.

They're probably itching her, and if she isn't careful, she'll pull them out. Your vet should have put an Elizabethan collar on her. Call your vet and ask for one (the kind that makes your dog look like a conehead.)

He should have given you some pan a log (Not sure of spelling) cream for her. Just treat her like you normally do so she does not suspect something to be differnt. If you pamper her too much she will get nervous and take it out on the stiches.

That's why they put those weird cone-shaped collars on dogs.
You could try a wrap-around bandage....
Whatever you do, it's important that she leave the stitches alone so she can heal properly!

My dog would freak out whenever I put the cone on her. She would back herself into a corner and stay there and shake and howl.
I ended up getting a tensor bandage and wrapped it around her. It did the trick.

other than putting one of those big plastic cone collars on her so she cant reach them, there really isnt much to do. licking is fine but if she tries to pull them out then you will have to get more drastic to get her to stop.
