I've taken both classes - Mechatronics is the application of mechanical moving parts and devices with an electronics application. Electronic devices includes just electronic circuits. An mp3 player would be an electronic device. Robots and things of that nature are mechatronic devices because the use both mechanical moving parts and electronics to control it.
To answer ur 2nd ? --> HVAC is heating, ventilation and air conditioning

Mechatronics, as the name indicates is a combination of mechanical and electronic systems. Electronic systems generally don't have moving parts, esp. like tools. A google search gave many books, journals etc. In India, HMT is a leader and may be able to give you information.
An MP3 player without moving parts will be an electronic equipment. A CNC lathe or Grinding machine will be a mechatronic equipment.
