I currently feed my cats IAMS blue label (multiple cat).....I was just wondering if this is a healthy choice for my cats. I spend about $12 per 8lb bag. I've been told that Science Diet is the best, but it is a little expensive for my blood. My cats seem to eat less, but they still poop like they did before on regular cat food (purina).

Thanks for the advice.

Science Diet, Iams, and Purina are all poor quality cat foods because they use by-product meat (only 30%) and are 60% corn or other grain which is not the right diet for a cat.

You should go to www.littlebigcat.com and read Dr. Jean Hovfe's article title "Selecting a Good Commercial Pet Food" for guidelines in choosing a quality food for your cat. You might also read the one titled "Why Cats Need Canned Food". More and more vets are starting to feel that a diet of dry food exclusively is not the best one for cats.

There are a lot of cat foods out there, but many of them are totally different. Some are good for hairball, some are for age wise (or in other words, that cat food is for different ages for cats) and some would say that it is easier on the cats intestion track (or the cat food is easier to go down with no trouble and is easier for you cat or kitten to eat as well). The next time you buy cat food, look at what kind of nutrients it has such as how well it will work for your cat since all cat foods are different and most of the cat food still comes at a cheap price - the same price you have been paying when you got your cat some cat food.

My vet hasn't ever specified a specific type of food for my cat.

I do feed my cat the Purina One Urinary Tract Health formula. He is a strictly indoor cat and I wanted to reduce the amount of amonia in his urine. Oh - and he had surgery because his urethra was blocked and he couldn't urinate any longer.

Anyway- I'm not sure the more expensive food is the way to go. Find what your cat likes as well as what benefits it provides. I am sure IAMS is just fine.

Iams is better fro your cat than purina. You don't have to spend a fortune to feed your cats a healthy diet. Don't play around with switching them from one food to another you will upset their stomach. Find a brand that you like and can afford and stick with it. A cat can survive on generic catfood although it just provides the very basic nutrition that they need.
