I'd think most teachers go YEARS without a thank you note from a student, so ANYTHING you write will be saved and treasured! I'd say to write the facts and how you feel about the facts. For instance:
Dear Mr. Brown,
Before I was transferred to your class, I really struggled in math. You have such a gift for explaining concepts in a way that I can understand. I am getting much better grades and no longer feel frustrated. I really appreciate your exceptional teaching skills and the interest you take in each of us. You've made me feel successful in math, and I am so grateful!
Sincerely,
Leah

That's a wonderful idea! Too often, teachers are under-appreciated.

I would speak from the heart. Find a card that makes you smile or even make your own (maybe even write a little poem). Then, write something like you wrote above with a sincere "thank you" at the end. Tell him that you struggled so much until you were in his class and you really appreciate how much he's helped you over the year.

Just be sincere and honest. You don't have to be sappy or anything unless you want to be. Teachers like to know that they've made a difference. That's what they hope they can do and when someone tells them, it means a lot.

Say just that... That he has been a great help and you are really grateful for what he has done for you. Any teacher would be more than happy to receive the slightest sign of appreciation from a student, so I don't think you need to worry too much about the particulars of what you say, it's the gesture that is important in this case.

I would basically just include what you said in your post. Let him know that math has always been a struggle, but this year because of his attitude, teaching style, etc, you have learned a lot and really appreciated being in his class. You could mention that you feel better about math overall and won't forget that he helped you. Teachers really like hand-written letters because it's something they can hold on to over the years.

just express how much you appreciated him taking the time to help you..and how much it has meant to you....

something like...Mr. Brown , I just wanted to take the time to tell you how much I appreciated all the help you have given me .It has meant a great deal ...thank you...

It doesn't have to be anything fancy ...I am sure it will bring a smile to his face....

sorry ...writing is not my forte ..but hopefully ,this will give you an idea........

by the way, it is very nice to see someone taking the time to express their appreciation toward another who has helped them.... : )
