I would spend money given to my children's schools starting Best Buddies or Circle of Friends programs. They match special needs students with mainstreamed students to foster social development and understanding. The mainstream students become more compassionate and are almost like ambassadors for the special needs students. The special needs students develop more confidence in dealing with other people and in more mainstreamed settings, making them more independent. These lessons are carried out into the world (not just the school setting) benefiting not only the children involved but society as a whole. It is a win-win situation.
