Don't forget Lot and his daughters committing incest.

As I see it, we do not get any positive family value lessons in the story of Lot. Initially, we have to keep in mind however what the mind set of that particular generation was. First, being a good host of (hospitality) was the number one priority for most men of that day and his daughters virginity would be less than worrisome. Daughters weren't worth anything. Continuing on with the story where Lot impregnates his two daughters (he was drunk but in today's culture that would be no excuse), the primary thoughts in the daughters minds was to carry on their "family" bloodline. Today, we have no such ideas for the most part. According to today's standards, Lot would be considered a terrible man, who did not love his daughters or care about sexual morality when it came to women. However in the culture of his day, his behavior was normal and acceptable. I think what the Lord was trying to teach us in this particular story is two fold. First, he was willing to hold off the destruction of an "evil" city because of just one man which tells me the same thing as the story of Noah does..i.e. Even one individual is important. The second lesson is one of obedience. Lot obeyed...Lots wife did not...thus she perished. Basically, it is the same lesson we are told throughout the old testament...obey is good, disobey causes death.

The story, a rabbi said on the show Genesis, is a story like The Odyssey. It's a very typical story from the Mediterranean region and its focus is: Hospitality. Its focus is - what is the proper way to treat a guest.

A moral of the tale is that even good people are corrupted by bad environments and lose their ability to think clearly.

Lot's wife 'turned into' a pillar of salt as a way of explaining the actual pillars of salt standing all around the dead sea.

Pretty wide scope there.

1. In father Abrham's family, no one is left behind.
2. A house in order is a house for God.
3. The family that runs together will live longer.

It's more important to protect a couple of strangers than your own daughters. It's worse to let a crowd have its way with a couple of strangers than to let that crowd rape your own virgin daughters.

Some family values!!

What we learn about lot was that he was a foolish man to think he would enjoy a righteous life in a sinful city.....what we learn about God is that He will send for you even when you have chosen a bad lifestyle....he will come seeking you......

Its not a story of family values. If that's your family's model then you are sick.

That you children can become products of their environment. They were in a lustful city all that time and the spirit of lust found a resting place in their lives.

That it's okay for your daughters to be gang raped, as long as your guests aren't inconvenienced.
