Sometimes I can't believe how poor people's spelling is on here and I am too distracted by wanting to criticise them for it to be able to answer their question. I mean, there is a spell check available if you have dyslexia or poor english. Am I just grumpy or is anyone with me?

Mock away, especially people who use "ur" and "mayb."

"nast"

Yes, It is rude and nasty to mock people's bad spelling for a few of reasons. (1) This is not school and there is nothing to be graded on. (2) Yes, there is a spell check but even that is wrong I've noticed when I have used that so not even the Spell checker is correct. For maybe it doesn't know the correct word that you want to use. (3) It gives you a bad reputation when you mock people's bad spelling. (4) Finally, Not everybody is a perfectionist.

I don't think mocking is a good idea as people do have trouble with English. That said, there is a spellchecker on here ans, also, some people will completely misspell an important word that is a main part of the question and nobody can help them with the answer and it is a waste of 5 points for the person asking

Poor spelling is distracting, but I find that people really don't care anymore. You can correct them all you want, but I doubt it will make a difference. Is it rude? I guess that depends on how you approach it! I personally, learned what I went to school to learn. Become a high school teacher and think of ways to teach people how to spell. If you have a problem with the world....at least do your part to fix it. Otherwise.....turn off the internet and read a well written book...problem solved.

Better tell them now before they try to get into college.

a former chief examiner for English language A-level at the exam board AQAB, said he had rarely seen textisms used in A-level papers. But examiners had seen them crop up at GCSE.

“Between 11 and 16, children often change their language to express their social difference or identity. Using text message abbreviations in exam answers is the verbal equivalent of wearing a hoodie."

“If I saw one on a paper, I wouldn’t be particularly impressed, but it wouldn’t make a critical difference.”

Kids must pass third FCAT to graduate

.....two years ago, the state added a multiple-choice section that tests students' grammar, punctuation and spelling skills and requires them to show they can organize their writing.

Last year, students struggled with that part of the test. Had it been a graduation requirement then, half of Florida 10th-graders would have failed, state testing director Cornelia Orr said recently.

The occasional misspelling of a word is completely normal. We've all done it.
What I don't understand is when people type "ur" instead of your and "any1" instead of anyone.
It distracts readers and answerers and makes us think that a child must have written it. Personally, I answer questions differently for children and adults, so if you want to be treated as an adult, speak (or in this case, type) like one.

I'm with you. Although it is a bit nasty, I feel that it is also appropriate. The sad thing is that they don't care that you mock them. They don't even realize it, so you are really just further punishing yourself. Let it go, sweetheart, you can't control the rouges.

I do not think it is considered nasty, just a little annoying. I am not a fan of bad grammar either but you just have to roll your eyes and move on in some instances.

It's petty and immature to be a grammar queen!

As long as you understand what they are asking, who gives a good God damn how they say it?

Also, if you complain about spelling and grammar, it's a great way to make someone feel bad and to shut down any effective communication!

Beyond that, who really cares about spelling? This is not school, you are not a teacher (and even if you are you are not in the classroom here) and nobody is getting graded - so honestly who cares except for silly anal retentive people who get off on correcting others!!!

Get a life!!!

Well, if it is....then I guess I am just nasty. I can see people making mistakes on long words, but mistakes like "elefunt" are a bit much to overlook!
