This is my current setup:

Computer
Dell 2007WFP Wide-Screen Monitor (VGA, DVI, S-video Composite)
Toshiba SD-360E DVD upscaler (576p 720p, 1080i) (HDMI, Scart, phono jacks, component video jacks)
Cambridge Soundworks 2.1 speakers
Aver Media TV Box 3. (Phono jacks, S-video, VGA)

Whats the best way to get high quailty pictures from the DVD upscaler to the monitor?

At the moment Im using: phono jacks to connect the DVD player to the Avermedia, and the optical out on Avermedia to connect the speakers. The monitor is connected to the Avermedia by VGA and connected directly to the grahpics card on the computer via DVI.

I hope this makes sense. Do I need to replace the AverMedia box with something that supports something else? As far as I can see, the new Avermedia boxes dont support HDMI either.

Thanks.

If you can't use an SVGA cable to get the picture to your monitor, then the next best thing is COMPONENT cables...Don't worry about HDMI...It's ONLY needed if you've got an HD-DVD (or Blu-ray) player and a display that can show 1920 x 1080 resolution.

Just make sure your SVGA cable is hardcore...Or make sure you've got decent COMPONENT cables...Don't use the "Monster Cable" brand...Use "RG6" for ZERO signal loss...Click this link to see how: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/budgetcables.html

Here's how it breaks down from best to worst...

HDMI
DVI
Component Video
Toslink
S-Video
Composite Video
