At four weeks old he should still be with the mother however if he has been separated check to see if he has teeth yet. If not, he will need a puppy formula. You can get this at most pet store and even Wal-Mart or a vet’s office. Do not use human formula because it does not provide enough protein and fatty material for dogs and do not use cow milk because it is too high in fat content. If the pup has teeth feed him a puppy food mixed with some puppy formula. This will wean him into the food without upsetting his stomach and it will adjust him to eating solid foods. Gradually take away the formula and work him into a healthy solid food. He should be on a puppy food until he is about one year old. When looking for a food, make sure the first ingredient is a meat product. If it is cornmeal or brewers rice the dog will not benefit from it and will only defecate more frequently.

I can not imagine a real breeder to be so irresponsible as to let a four week old doberman go. They have to have that time for growing and socializing and learning from the dam. I find this really upsetting. In our country there are the Yarnells who have been raising top quality dobes since 1963. I don't think you will find anyone more experienced with them anywhere else in the U.S.They are highly regarded as being the best. I was looking at their site yesterday as this is where my dogs come from and on almost every pedigree I looked at every single dog on it was a champion. Most are international champions. They adhere to a very specific diet for their pups and dams. All this info. is listed on their site.I think you will find it very beneficial. It is www.kimbertal.com.Hope this helps.

If You go to your local petstore/grocery store/ wal-mart you have a huge selection of food. But i Highly recomend you go to a petstore if you are willing to fork out the dough, and buy scinece diet, or nutro. Those are really good. But I feed my Doberman Purina Puppy chow, Becuase thats all he likes he wont eat anything else. It is a really good food, i dont like it but he does and thats all he eats. But go on what you dog likes, BUT STAY AWAY FROM OL'ROY AND GRAVEY TRAIN DOG FOOD. OVER TIME THEY WILL HARM YOUR DOG. AND IT IS ESPECIALLY NOT SUITED FOR DOBERMANS. DOBERMAN NEED A HIGH PROTEIN DIET. even though purina dosent have alot of protein, you should add it by feeding him chicken/steak/fish ect ect.
( but never the bones)
Beleive me, i have had Dobermans ALL my life, my father raises them. They will only eat what they like, but always make sure its good for him, Like purina. Its good, more than normal price range, healthy (some what , i admitt but i give him what hes missing, and thats the protein)
So do what YOU feel is right. Dont listen to anyone else, im just giving you and example. DO what you and your Doberman like.

P.S

AWSOME CHOICE ON A DOG! DOBERMANS ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh, he is very small. you can give him farex (human baby feed)mix it with luke warm water . don't feed him milk. he may have loose motion. at least for another 3 weeks this is only his feed. you have to feed him 4-5 times a day and 2-3 table spoon at a time.
