i'm trying to find a place to cash a 1500 check

Most check cashing places won't cash them. And, most grocery stores wont' cash them.

Try taking it to your bank. If you don't have a personal bank account, look at the check, and go to the same bank that the check was written on. They should be able to cash it.

Most normal places you go should be able to cash it. If you have an account at a bank it should be easiest. Check cashing places, tend to shy away from these because they do not want to take a chance that the check was voided. They make take it if they can confirm the check is good. A bank is your best bet though. (less fees as well).

The check is for the repair of your wife's car,,,,,,,period. You can take the car to another shop and the insurance company will RE-ISSUE another 2 party check to your wife and the new body shop. If you don't want the repairs done, then tell the insurance company and they will stop pay the check and you will get nothing. They will NOT allow you to cash the check unless the shop and your wife both sign off on it and have the car repaired. The only way you could have a check issued to your wife only, is (IF), this check came from someone else's insurance policy (not yours, and if the other party is at fault), since there is no contract with another insurance company and your wife. But since this is YOUR policy and since you have a contract, then any repairs must be 2 party check. good luck

Because insurances are notorious for stopping payment on checks, most places won't cash them - unless it's a bank the check is drawn on. (Then you might pay a fee.) You're probably going to have to deposit the check into your account and wait the ten days before you can touch it.
