After coming in contact with water, apply Eucerin cream, not lotion. It will trick the sebaceous (sp?) glands into thinking that they do not have to replenish oils on the skin.

I have lived with this anomaly all my life and this is the only stuff that does the trick. I get severe bouts of eczema on my hands.

Actually better than Eucerin and if you live in the States and have an Albertson's Grocery store near you use their brand of Eucerin called "Equaline dry skin cream". Apply immediately after you wash. It works better and is a lot less expensive.

If your eczema is really bad, Elidel can clear it right up in just a couple applications. It has a bad wrap because of the black box warning but it's safe. If the eczema is not as bad, you can use hydrocortisone. Either the highest strength you can find over the counter, or get a script from your derm for 2.5%, it works well. A dermatologist did wonders for me. If you are going to treat it on your own, use the hydrocortisone under aquaphor, vaseline or another good lotion of your choice (or even Aveeno daily moisturizing lotion) in the morning and apply both again before bed. If it is horrible, though, you may want to see a derm for some Elidel and additional tips. Also, don't take long hot showers or baths. Lukewarm is the best. Then immediately out of the shower put on your lotions. Also, reapply lotion throughout the day if you feel dry. (but only use the hydrocortisone 2x daily)

Everyone I have known has done it differently

But here is what my son's Doctor has us doing and for the most part it works (winter is the worst for him though)

First moisturize every morning and night. Don't use a lotion they have ingredients that can irritate especially alcohol. Use a cream. Aveeno Cream is what we use on our son. When you are in the lotion/cream aisle at the store look for ones that say creme. Unfortunately they are more expensive.

Secondly bathe every day. Not long showers or baths just quick ones to get the old remnants of the creme off. then moisturize before you are completely dry.

This is what has worked for him. we still have some minor flare ups but he is no longer completely covered and we have not had to use any of the nasty prescription stuff in a long time.

We did explore all sorts of possible allergens but found non that he is in contact with regularly I do know people that have dairy, pet, environmental allergies that manifest as eczema. If you can see an allergist.

Hope this helps good luck.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Best Eczema Treatment?

I know - I have eczema too. Here are some tips:
- Try some E45 moisturising cream

- Use Fucibet cream (this wears down the skin so don't put too much on)

- Use Glaxo cream

- Change your bed sheets regularly or vacum out the dustmites

- Shower regulary. If you go to a swimming pool, shower before and after you swim. (This will stop the chlorine from affectin as much.) If you exercise and you are sweaty, then have a shower.

- Don't go in greenhouses with plants inside in the summer. That can cauze eczema to itch and get really bad (trust me i know).

- Eczema is not curable unfortunatly, but get some help. If it gets really bad, see your doctor or GP.

What I believe is the best way to cure or lessen the effect of eczema is first by detox - getting rid or all the chemicals that you have already put on your body - then eating healthy foods -more in fruits and drinking alot of water

My brother has the same problem since birth - I know your situation

Another suggestion - keep away from dust or dirty area - having said that - if your place is dusty or you do not clean it often - I think this would be the best time for you to clean the place

The best suggestion would be - consult your doctor BUT from my experience - please think twice on the different lotions the doctor will suggest you to use - after all they are chemicals!!!

Hi Manu

Here is a herb remedy that will work, but will require some patience.

1. Take 1-3 droppersful of Echinacea Plus Tincture (at herbdoc.com or another qualified site).

2. Rub Garlic oil ALL over the affected area (Garlic will kill anything if you use enough of it)

3. Give 1-3 glasses of Activated Charcoal Slurry per day (to absorb the toxins out of the blood)

4. Mix equal parts of Aloe Vera Gel, Slippery Elm Powder and Activated Charcoal Powder together (absorbs the toxins externally)

5. Apply a thin layer of this mixture over the AFFECTED area(s).

6. Continue this treatment, until the desired Results are achieved.

This is healing at it's finest and you have freedom when you can do this for yourself or others.

Cause
Eczema is often called Dermatitis, and may be a symptom of an omega-3 fatty acid deficiency. Eczema can be due to allergies, allergies secondary to digestive disorders such as hydrochloric acid deficiency, rashes secondary to immune diseases, genetic metabolic disorders, and/or nutritional deficiencies, especially of niacin (vitamin B3) and B6, as well as other B vitamins.

To minimize your risk of developing eczema, avoid irritating substances, wear natural nonirritating materials, use soothing ointments, and check to see if dietary, nutritional, and/or and allergy-causing factors need to be considered.

Juice Therapy: The following juice combinations can help speed healing: black currant and red grapes; carrot, beet, spinach, cucumber, and parsley; and wheat grass juice.

Nutritional Supplementation: Vitamin A and GLA (gamma-linolenic acid), an omega-6 essential fatty acid found in high quantities in evening primrose oil, have both been shown to improve the symptoms of eczema. Vitamin E. Other useful supplements for preventing and reversing eczema include vitamin B complex, vitamin B6, vitamin E, magnesium, and zinc.

Topical Treatment: Apply evening primrose oil directly to cracked and sore areas of the skin. A topical paste made from ginkgo and licorice root extract has also been shown to improve eczema symptoms.

Best of health to you

I read with concern on the many thread replies here recommending Elidel. Please note that Elidel can pose a cancer risk if used for a prolonged period of time. Here is a news article on it http://www.yourlawyer.com/articles/read/11185

There are several treatment and prevention options for eczema. You should apply the right option based on the skin condition that you are currently having.

Once you have your eczema under control and on the road to recovery, you should switch to using more natural means. This may include using oils and creams that are not corticosteroids but more for deep moisturizing, changing your diet, detox cleansing, etc.

I am an eczema sufferer myself and research extensively on this topic. Recently I found a newsletter that offers great free tips on combating eczema. You can get more details here

I suffered for years, but there is a great medicine on the market called Elidel (cream). It's the only thing that has ever soothed my eczema, and eventually made it disappear. Suerte!!
