On wensday I went ouside to get the mail, and run my Doberman. And on my way there ( i have 5acres, it takes 2 to get to the front gate) I saw a dog in trying to get in my chained linked fence. So my Doberman ran as fast as he could, bared his teeth and hair, and wouldnt let me near the gate. So I made my doberman Get away from the gate, and I went up the the dog and it was a Pure bred pitt. he jumped up on the gate so i petted him and he was really sweet. So i let him in and automatically my doberman saw that it was okay, but towered over him to let him know he was here first. and I checked him for and I.D or tattoo but he had neither. And i asked everyone on my street if they were missing a dog, nobody did. So I made the mistake of feeding the dog becuase he was REALLY thin, and now he wont leave. I tried to push him out of the gate, and when i did, He got right back in an hour later. But i am 99.9% sure that this dog does not have a microchip.

Becuase where i live, isnt really a good area, and litteraly every person on my block or within a 5 mile radius, Have unhealthy/dirty/skinny/unidentified/unlisensed/uncared for Dog. we have animal controll vans on my street everyday, to try to save some dogs. some even stop me to thank me for having my Dobermans well cared for, and healthy. But I dont want to keep the dog if it has an owner who loves it, im looking up info now, and after im dont typing this im going to call our humane society, put up a found dog add, put poster up in our local grocery store and the works becuase if this dog does have an owner, it should go back, right? Even though it came to me unhealthy? becuase my dog and him get along REALLY GOOD, the play out in my yard for hours. and im afraid that the owner wont care for it, am i doing the right thing?

I would still take him to the shelter and check for a microchip.. have them take a picture/detals on how to contact you and then it looks like you might have a new dog...smile

EDIT: if the owner does not come forward then YES KEEP THE DOG!!!!! smile thank you for caring for this poor dog...

I am not for pits but I am for being fair.Sometimes it does happen that animals find themselves in situations that they did not ask for. It does happen that animals get away from owners who are traveling and such. I had a friend who left his dog in the car while paying for gas and someone let the dog out.He looked for days with no success. There was a small gas leak in his tank and that dog tracked that gas leak way back to Vermont from the very north of Maine. It took him two months. The owner got several reports from police whom he had notified of the situation who said the dog had been seen going down the middle of the road with his nose to the ground like he was tracking something. He must have made a couple side trips because each time my friend immediately went to where he had been seen to no avail. When he showed up at home finally he had lost a lot of weight. He loved his owner so much he never gave up though. Just to let you know that sometimes a dog can be very much wanted by someone and just having a hard time. I would hate to see something happen where the dog was lost and not be able to re-connect with his owner because someone else was keeping him or had been sent to a shelter. I would see if he had been chipped and keep posters up for at least 3 months. I would alert all dog shelters and police stations etc. that I had found a dog of this type in all neighboring states at least. It can happen and I'm sure if it happened to you you would want to be located.

If it were me I would feel compelled to keep him and feed him and take a digital pic and make signs you can put up around town.
I'd also call animal control to see if they have gotten calls, & place a (free) ad in the paper in the found section. You should see if he has a chip too.
** I think if he were mistreated by his owner you would see it in his behavior ** I'll bet he's just been on the streets for a bit.

Call your nearest Animal Control. Tell them your situation. If nobody claims the dog. Then its yours if you want it. I know that in my state you only have to wait 7 days. But you can have him scanned to make sure he is not chipped. If he is then the owners can be in trouble for just letting him go. Then he becomes available for adoption. But since you have been taking care of him, then they may just let you keep him. You may have to sign a paper stating that you will have him neutered though.

I think you should try to give it back to the original owners. even though he was thin when you foubd him, doesnt mean he wasnt fed. he could have been gone for a long time. It was a good thing that you took him in. and if no one claims him then i think it's only fair that you keep him. if there is no problem with your dog and the pitt. then you shouldnt worry. you did a good thing and your reward should be to keep the dog. obviously he likes you. KEEP HIM!

Well, I never thought Brad Pitt was hot. He's a good actor and cute but I wouldn't consider him hot.
