so a cute boy @ work (who doesn't work with me) asked me, "if i wanted to join him for dinner (pizza)"

I construed that question as a date, and although I like him, I didn't want it to be a date.

so when I did finally return his call (24 hrs later), the conversation went like this...

me: "Hi! How are you doing?"
him: *replies. casual talk*
me: "When you asked me about dinner and pizza....if that's a date ...i'm...not interested."
him: "Oh...well I was just asking for pizza."
me: "Oh...I must have read it wrong"
him & me: *more chatter*
me: "So what are you doing now?"
him: "oh taking out hte trash"
me: "that's always important
him: "What are you doing now?"
me: "going out with a girlfriend.."
sometinge else and that's all..

Did I read him wrong? Should I have just gone out to pizza with him? I don't want to date him (yet), but I don't want him to get offended....your thoughts?

whats wrong with that?its ok for both of you go out for a pizza and maybe catch a movie.you might just get to like him,who knows,it doesnt have to be anything kincky or anything like that.i dont think he meant anything bad about that.i just think he liked you and wanted your company.good luck.

If you like him, I'm not sure why you didn't want it to be a date. I think you should have went out to dinner with him and if he made it clear that he thought it was a date, then you should have corrected him while you were out. Telling him that it wasn't a date beforehand tells him that you don't want to date him ever and he's not likely to ask you out again after being rejected a first time.

if you don't want to date him, don't. If I were you, I would follow your heart, especially if he has a girlfriend. He MIGHT(I am not saying he is) HE MIGHT be trying to find someone new, then again, maybe he is sincere and just wants a friend.

Try this....suggest that you guys go out as a group of friends. Suggest that he brings his girlfriend and that you invite some of your friends as well and EVERYONE splits the bill.
If he does not accept that, then you know. :0)

Just eat with him because he might have been flirting with you but he was too shy to say it.

doesn't matter,
just see him how he eat.
feel his animalistic desire, and see if you still want him, you know those happens but love does it all.
