its produced in the first place by burning things that give off gases like sulphur dioxide. car fumes iis one of the things that give off the sulphur dioxide. The sulphur dioxide turns into sulphuric acid which mixes with the rainwater in the clouds - hence leading to acid rain. So if we use our cars a little less and get on the bus so that instead of 40 people all driving a car, and producing 40 times the amount of sulphur dioxide, all 40 are on a bus that produces only about 3 or 4 times the amount. So less sulphur dioxide is produced. So start using public transport!

The main cause of acid rain is releasing smoke produced by burning of coal, lignite... Industries are using coal for producing electricity, heating Iron, etc.... Acid rain can be stoped by finding a substitute for burning coal... Like wind mill, solar power plant... Many foreign countries have increased their eco friendly power plants... But we are still running in the race like a snail... there is no time for slow and steady wins the race... It must be fast and steady.... create public awarness about using solar power plants... Our government gives some percentage of money on the cost of solar panel you buy.... It is to increase eco friendly power consumption... If you have a solar panel above your home.. Your electricity bill can be reduced.. When power consumption reduced... Burning of coal for producing electricity also reduced... Our neyveli thermal power plant is releasing tonnes and tonnes of ashes into the atmosphere every month... It is killing many lives without our knowledge...

Acid rain is caused by the presence of SO2 and NOx in air, as also CO2. All these, are released by burning coal and other fossil fuels. Thus reducing the burning of coal will reduce the acid rains.
