Someone getting ready to try out for IDOL.
The friend motivates the other. They choose songs. You'd get some great music happening with it. Even if the star doesn't have that great a voice, it is still like 98% of the first try outs that have a go for the real IDOL.

You may even want to write to a favourite IDOL contestant and see if there are any ideas that can be added into your film.

Good luck

Sounds like fun! That is something I've always wanted to do as well.
One of the main things you need to do is either have good camera angles; (close-ups really capturing facial expressions or wide shots showing beautiful or dramatic scenery) or have really good dialog or funny creative dialog. If you don't have either one of those things, your audience is going to get bored.
I don't think it really matters what your storyline or plot is, but it depends on if you can present it in a unique or fun, interesting way.
Some of my favorite movies are ones that you think something is a certain way, but it ends up being something totally different. Like the movie "A Beautiful Mind" with Russell Crowe, everyone took it for granted that he had those friends, but later we find out that he's psychotic and those are just imaginary people. It doesn't take a big budget to surprise your audience in that kind of way.
Whatever you do, make sure you're excited enough about it to follow through with the whole movie, because a lot of people start projects like that and halfway through they are unmotivated to finish.
