You didn't give enough details! However, several things come to mind..If you are a guy, then a nice business suit, if it is in the winter a suave black will do nicely, try and find out the color of the wedding and wear either a shirt or tie to match the wedding theme. If the wedding is in the summer, a nice off-white suit will do very nicely. If you are a lady, and the wedding is in the winter, then a nice suit (pantsuit or skirt suit) will do nicely, chocolate and mint green or even chocolate and pink are the hot colors this year. If it is in the spring/summer a nice sundress with a jacket for the ceremony, toss the jacket for the reception.

Depending on your Budget, Sex and place / Culture you may wear whatever is the best possible dress keeping in view these 3 basics.

It depends, are you a male or female? I say formal is always best, but as long as what you wear does not embarass you, your spouse-to-be or your family, you should be fine.

Well definitely NOT WHITE!! :) Something dressy....dress according to the season, place and formal of the event.
