Why are more women choosing to marry men 1 to 6 years younger than them?

It's now the year 2007 and personally I've noticed a trend of more older women married to younger guys. My next door neighbour is 5 years older then her Husband. I thought about why that was and I think it has to do with economics and better health care. 60 years ago most wives were totally financially dependent on their Husbands so they needed to marry for money as well as love. 60 years ago more women died during labour so the women needed to have children at a young age. Now with the advent of women earning the same or sometimes more then men she can choose a Husband solely based on love and how large his bank account was. Also with the US having the finest doctors in the world a women's rate of surviving childbirth has never been higher. So a 37 year old women can now have a safe childbirth. As to why some men choose to marry older women, well maybe it just old fashion love.
Anyone else noticed this growing trend and to why it's happening all over the world?

Its a power sharing situation. A younger guy likes older women because they know that older women seek to settle down more and want to be in a passionate relationship compared to the head games of their younger counterparts.

Older women want that extra stamina, that extra *HUMPH* when in a relationship and older men would have a hard time satiating her appetite.

You can say that the younger males are more sensitive because they have not seen as much as the older guys and that the guys know they are getting a run for their money, so to speak.

In the end, it don't matter. You will have older guys marrying younger women and older women marrying younger guys. Its permitted by society for men, now women are open to do the same.

I think that women are not ready to settle down as young anymore. They prefer career and money first. I'm older than my husband, but didn't plan it that way. We met, liked each other and eventually found out the age difference. My father in law is 4 years younger than his wife. Yes, actually know quite a few couples who fit this profile.

It's not acceptable in most cultures. A man one year younger is fine. Two years younger or more is unacceptable. Men have to be dominant while women are subordinate.

younger men are easier to control they spend more time thinking with the head in there pants not the one on there shoulders but you need to look at the other fact and that is older men are dating younger women most younger women aren't carrying so much emotional baggage. Also younger women will be more open to change versus older women, my wife is 9yrs younger then me.

I think it has to do with women being more mature than men, and the age difference kind of makes it level out.

I think you answered your own question.
Women don't "need" men so much anymore to rely on for financial stability and that was a major "white picket fence" thing. We can now maintain a house-hold by ourselves. Women can now focus on marrying for love and not just money. We don't have to settle anymore.

actually i think you have answered your own question very well. also, too many women are left as widows and mayb most woman want a husband they think will live as long as they do. however, judging by some of the widows i observe they seem to be having the time of their life lol

Because they are looking for someone who thinks in their mental bracket. Younger men are not as bright.
