I've tried taking fiber supplements, drinking coffee, eating prunes, taking laxatives, excersizing regularly, and eating slowly, none of which seem to work. I feel its a major health risk to myself to go this long without.. well, "going".

It's so far been 2 weeks since I last went and I cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong. any ideas?

I have this same problem although not as severe. I have scar tissue that slows down my bowels. Drink lots of water, eat lots of bran, and instead of using harsh laxatives take a stool softener everyday maybe twice a day. If you go to your doctor they can prescribe some great medicine.

The first thing you need to do is get plenty of fiber from fresh fruits and vegetables. Continues with prunes or prune juice as part of your daily routine and do not quit this. Use the fiber supplement 2-3 times a day but be sure you are drinking at least 8 ounces of water when you take it. DO NOT KEEP taking laxative. Sit on the toilet for about 5 minutes every morning after you eat breakfast whether or not you have a BM. If by the third day you haven't had a bowel movement then use a glycerin or bisacodyl suppository. If this is not effective then use an enema. You should also see your doctor to find out what is causing your consitpation. The fiber supplement, and prunes and sitting on the toilet need to be something you do every day of you life until you get your constipation under control. Also be sure you are using a psyllium husk type fiber product like metamucil. Since you said it't been 2 weeks use an enema now to get things going and then follow the routine outlined.

First, get your colon checked with colonoscopy to make sure that there are no tumors, polyps or structural abnormalities. Then start on a medicine called Miralax. It's the same medicine that is used for a bowel prep before colonoscopy. It is taken at least once a day, and will keep things moving. Another short term medicine would be Zelnorm. Metamucil, or generic equiv., Citrucel or other fiber, every day. You won't see results right away, but after 2-3 months, you will find it helps. Most people take fiber for a week, then decide it doesn't help, but longer term use is needed before seeing results.

Ok, firstly it's important to know that not everyone is a once a day person. Nor is it unusual for some people to go for a number of days without a bowel movement. It is only true constipation if you are feeling bloated, uncomfortable and have the urge to go but cannot achieve anything by straining.

Having said that, I think you really should see your doctor because 2 weeks does seem out of the norm.

Questions I would ask you are... what does your diet consist of? do you have a good breakfast and include plenty of fruit, vegies and cereals in your overall daily diet? the reason I ask is because these 3 food groups contain fabulous fibre. Fibre being the part of the plant that cannot be broken down by our bodies; so it just chuggs through the system helping to push out the waste we accumulate in our bowels... without the fibre, constipation is a given.

Boy your in trouble... there are many reasons why you have such. Try mental programming. tell your self that you are okay and it might help. Or you can try any of these: you can try a fruit diet in the morning. Papaya is a good fruit that helps out in the digestion process. try not to drink water while eating. drink your water one hour before meals and one hour after meals. continue taking the fiber supplements coz they don't usually work overnight. be patient. did you ever have a hydro colonic?

it would cost you about 50 or 60 dollars and it would help you clean the colon...upper and lower tracks..any holistic health provider could help you find a person who would give you a colonic..check the yellow pages or on the Internet for colonic.
you probably have an obstruction in the area and a colonoscopy could be called for but the fastest and cheapest is an enema but i recommend a hydro colonic..safe, inexpensive and it works
